It’s that time of the mid-year where we round up the best of the year so far. This week we are joined by guest host Hidz, who you might recognize from the Genre Equality and Hard Hidz podcasts. And just like last year, we pick three must-watch shows and three honourable mentions. And our picks for BEST TV 2018 so far are:

“Barry” created by Alec Berg and Bill Hader, stars Hader as a hitman who travels to LA on a job, then stumbles into the local theatre scene. He discovers a hidden talent and love for acting, and hilarity ensues.

“Babylon Berlin” is a German period drama based on novels by Volker Kutscher. The series takes place in 1929 during the Weimar Republic and follows police inspector Gereon Rath, who has been transferred from the city of Cologne to Berlin, and aspiring police inspector Charlotte Ritter.

“Queer Eye” is a reboot of the Bravo series “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy”, featuring a new Fab Five: Antoni Porowski, food and wine expert; Tan France, fashion expert; Karamo Brown, culture expert; Bobby Berk, design expert; and Jonathan Van Ness, grooming expert.

“Aggretsuko” is an anime like no other, an office worker who deals with her daily struggles at work by unleashing her rage with death-metal karaoke. Based on the eponymous character created by “Yeti” for the mascot company Sanrio. She first appeared in a series of animated shorts by Fanworks which aired on TBS Television, before launching worldwide on Netflix in April 2018.

“Cobra Kai” by Robert Mark Kamen, takes place 34 years after the “Karate Kid” film and follows the reopening of the Cobra Kai karate dojo by Johnny Lawrence. It comes to the attention of Daniel Larusso reigniting his longtime rivalry with Johnny. The series stars Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, reprising their roles from the films.
