Coming out at the same time as the Disney juggernaut Infinity War, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is quite the counter-programming. Based on the novel of the same name, the film follows Juliet Ashton (Lily James), a successful but restless author who is tired of writing about trivial stories and wants to find something with meaning. As luck would have it, she receives a letter from the society that gives the movie it’s name. Seeking a break from London at the peak of post-WW2 collapse, she impulsively takes the ferry to Guernsey, where she meets the society and learns about their experiences living under German occupation not so long ago.
